I was quite disappointed to get an email from Yogamates today with a political message promoting Barack Obama. I believe partisan politics need to be kept out of yoga. I am tired of the assumption that just because I like yoga that means I must therefore also like Obama.

I am a Hillary supporter who is voting for McCain because of the undemocratic nature of the Democratic primaries. Obama's campaign has a very frightening pattern of voter fraud, first with the caucuses and then with ACORN for the general election. This, coupled with the sexism against Hillary Clinton and now Sarah Palin, is why I am voting for the McCain/Palin ticket.

I also feel that anyone who thinks that Obama is somehow a savior of America is idealistic at best and naive at worst. Neither political party is filled with saints - both mainstream parties have their share of corruption and problems.

It is for this reason I urge yoga studios and websites to stop alienating the silent McCain voters by assuming we are all happy about Obama. I will never vote for Obama and I am tired of him being marketed as the second coming of Christ.

True tolerance would include giving people the benefit of the doubt despite their different ideology or political party. Anyone who hates McCain simply because he's a Republican is being prejudiced and not a good yogi. Conversely, assuming that Obama lives up to his hype without really taking a good hard look at the man and his actual record is bias in the opposite direction.
