InterviewYM: How did yoga find you?
EB: I took my first yoga class at San Francisco State University in 1991 from this older man with long white hair and a long beard. I think his name was Larry. It felt so natural to me. I felt like I was simply being reminded of something that was so familiar and I had done many times before. Everything made perfect sense to me. I remember saying ‘Oh Yeah! I get this!’ YM: Why do you teach yoga? EB: When I am teaching I feel I am the best version of myself. My connection to the Divine clicks in and suddenly a presence or energy flows and teaches the class through me. It is magical. Through this surrender to higher guidance I receive information that seems to be exactly what the class or individual needs for their healing that day. And I get so excited when a student has a breakthrough on any level. It is joyous to witness someone breathe, release and live with more expansiveness and life force flowing through their being. YM: How do you integrate all the healing modalities you study? EB: First I find out what the person is working with and what their particular needs are on any given day. If they are open to any and all modalities of healing, a session may include all (or a portion) of personalized yoga sequencing, stretching, energetic balancing (using a craniosacral-based technique and Quantum Energetic Medicine) and massage therapy. YM: What is Quantum Energetic Medicine and why do you study it? EB: The essence of energetic medicine is the feel of the human energy field. A practitioner must be able to feel what the body is trying to tell them. QEM uses only the midline of the body to diagnose and correct any condition. This is done by adjusting the bioenergetic field (with medical knowledge and highly developed intuitive skills) to determine the strength and weakness specifically correlating to the imbalance or injury. I love Quantum Energetic Medicine because the results are often immediate and system promotes change relating to present and past lives and on all levels of consciousness—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. YM: Congratulations on your new DVD! Please tell us all about it! EB: Thank you! It was a labor of love. I am so excited to share it with everyone! Yoga Short & Sweet contains five different selections, 10 minutes each, for beginners and busy people. It also contains two 2 minute meditations—‘Self Appreciation’ and ‘Global Connection’. The selection titles are: Relaxed Energy, Calm Mind, Vibrant Health, Inner Power and Inner Sexy. The visuals are rich and beautiful with large white bowls filled with water and floating candles… fresh flowers everywhere. Sparkles on the floor give it a very magical feel….There is an awesome original music score, perfectly supporting a relaxing and energizing experience. If everyone did 10 minutes of yoga a day, we would live in a much healthier and happier world! YM: Why is it so important to be able to practice yoga in short sections? EB: Studies have shown that it is more beneficial to exercise in shorter consistent sessions, daily or every other day, versus one longer burst like once a week. Tuning into your body and breath everyday—even for 10 minutes—assists in developing a relationship to your energetic system which is so important for listening and assessing your body’s needs. It helps maintain a momentum for yoga, or any exercise, and breaks the ‘all or nothing’ thinking pattern. All too often I have thought that if I can’t get to a 90 minute class, then I will just do nothing. I have found by personal experience that even 10 minutes does indeed help and it changes my energy for the whole day. YM: What tips do you have for the person that says they are too busy for yoga? EB: Buy my DVD! Everyone can find 10 minutes out of their day to move and breathe. YM: Who is your DVD intended for? EB: It is perfect for beginners and people who are very busy. It’s great for travel. YM: What does your daily practice look like? EB: I practice anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 hours a day depending on my schedule. I start by lying on my back in resting pose and listening to what my body needs to attain balance. I choose from a variety of healing movements which may include pranayama, asana, yin yoga, Qi Gong, meditation, or Healing Sounds by Mantak Chia (which I also teach). YM: What do you love? EB: I love the feeling after a great yoga session, feeling fully alive, connected to the earth, feeling expansive in my being and open in my heart. The sense of celebrating each moment no matter what I am doing because I am centered and at home in my body; life force vibrantly pulsing through my cells…from this place I love to connect to others around me and share this energy. YM: Please explain your quote: “Kindness happens in an instant.” EB: Decisions on how we react in any moment happen instantaneously. This quote is a reminder that in a flash we can change the way we react to a person or situation. A gentle reminder that we can choose kindness. It also refers to the Divine gifts that we are given and that grace and kindness can be bestowed upon us at any moment. The more we attune to this consciousness of universal blessings, the more we are open to receiving and creating loving energy around us. YM: Thank you for joining us! Where can we find out more about you? EB: Please check out my website!! www.YogaShortandSweet.com
